In our patients’ words
Your most comfortable visit yet starts here.
Hamel Dental is a father-and-son family dental practice at 210 Burlington Avenue in downtown Clarendon Hills, Illinois — providing preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry for children and adults since 1985. New patients are always welcome; most insurance is accepted and filed for you.
In pain right now? You can reach us.
Toothaches, broken teeth, and lost crowns rarely schedule themselves politely. We hold time for same-day dental emergencies, and after hours you are not routed to an answering service: call 630-323-0380 and press 2, and the call forwards directly to Dr. Hamel’s own phone. That is a promise very few dental offices anywhere can make, and it is one reason three generations of local families keep a smile worth smiling about.
Jaw pain, clicking, morning headaches, or teeth wearing down faster than they should? Those are usually bite problems, not tooth problems — and occlusion is a particular focus of ours. Start with our page on TMJ and bite therapy.
Honest answers about cost and insurance
We are an out-of-network practice — which simply means you can be treated here regardless of your plan. We accept and file most dental insurance, tell you what your plan is likely to cover before treatment begins, and put every recommendation in writing with its cost. No surprises is not a slogan here; it is the office policy. Details on insurance and financing, including our in-office discount plan and CareCredit.
Serving the western suburbs from downtown Clarendon Hills
Two blocks from the Clarendon Hills Metra station and minutes from Hinsdale, Westmont, Willowbrook, Oak Brook, and Downers Grove, our office has been part of this downtown for four decades. Early-morning and evening hours fit around commutes; family block scheduling fits around school runs.
We also welcome families from Burr Ridge, Darien, Western Springs, and La Grange.
We schedule around real life: 7:00 AM openings for commuters two blocks from the Clarendon Hills Metra stop, evening appointments on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Friday morning hours when many nearby offices are closed, and family block scheduling so parents and kids — from children’s checkups to adult cosmetic care — are seen in a single trip.
Forty years on Burlington Avenue
There has been a dental office on this downtown Clarendon Hills block since the 1950s, when Dr. Wm. H. Keehn opened it. Dr. William B. Hamel, DDS, bought the practice in 1985, and his son Dr. Philip J. Hamel, DMD, joined him after finishing dental school. Today many of the people in our chairs are the children and grandchildren of patients Dr. William first treated — which is why we describe ourselves as a family practice in both senses of the word.
Continuity is clinical, not sentimental. Your history, X-rays, and dental work live in one place, watched by doctors who have seen your mouth change over the years. It also anchors our standard of care: both doctors invest heavily in continuing education through Spear Education, the Seattle Study Club, and the American Equilibration Society, and Dr. Philip is an AACD Accreditation Candidate — one of the most rigorous credentials in cosmetic dentistry.
What to expect at your first visit
A new-patient appointment at our Clarendon Hills office runs about ninety minutes, and most of it is conversation and examination rather than treatment. You will get a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays, an oral cancer screening, a blood-pressure check, and an evaluation of your bite and jaw joints — because worn teeth, headaches, and cracked fillings are often bite problems first. When it is appropriate we finish with a cleaning. You leave with a clear, written plan and honest numbers, and nothing beyond that day’s exam happens without your say-so. Here is a fuller walkthrough of the first visit.
If dental visits make you anxious, say so when you book — we schedule extra time, explain each step before it happens, and offer oral conscious sedation for patients who want it. Families are welcome: we are family dentists who see children, not pediatric specialists, and we will tell you plainly if a child would be better served by a specialist.
Hours built around a working family’s week
We know the dentist is rarely the first thing you want to fit into a weekday. Our doors open as early as 7 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, we see patients into the evening on Wednesday and Thursday, and we keep Friday morning hours as well — so a cleaning before work, after school, or on the way to the weekend is realistic. The office is two blocks from the Clarendon Hills Metra station. Current hours and same-week availability are here.
Questions patients ask about our Clarendon Hills office
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes — always, and of every age. Call 630-323-0380, text us, or request an appointment online and we will usually have you in within the week. See what 350+ patients say about their visits.
Do you take my dental insurance?
We are an out-of-network practice, which means you can be seen here regardless of your plan. We accept and file most dental insurance, estimate what your plan will cover before treatment starts, and offer financing for larger cases. Details on insurance and cost are here.
Which dentist will I see?
Either Dr. William or Dr. Philip, depending on scheduling and the kind of care you need — both hold themselves to the same standard, and both know every patient chart. If you have a preference, tell us when you book and we will honor it.
Do you offer clear aligners?
Yes. We are a ClearCorrect provider, and we evaluate your bite and jaw alignment before recommending aligner treatment, because moving teeth has consequences beyond how they look.
What if I have a dental emergency?
We hold time for same-day emergencies. Call 630-323-0380; after hours, press 2 to reach the doctor on call. What counts as an emergency, and what to do until you reach us.
